Episode Title: Discipline in Light of the Darkroom
Duration: under 8 minutes
Record Date: March 2003
Final Edit Date: 2006
Description: The darkroom is always a strange place. It’s a place of solitary confinement where the rest of the world gets shut out. The darkroom is not usually a social place, not only because non-photographers don’t enter there, but also because other photographers are busy doing their own work. It is typically a place to retreat inside oneself while working, and it is also very mentally demanding if an artist wants to perfect his or her work. I don’t know that Celeste would let me back in the darkroom again with her. Because the place is devoid of light and represents some of the inner most creative places, I felt like a total invader. Only, I couldn’t seem to help myself- I kept asking her questions. Every time Celeste spoke with me I took the conversation one step further. I feel like Celeste really humored me by allowing my presence and providing such a distraction for her, which is the kind of thing I usually try to avoid. Normally, I like to be as unobtrusive as possible, but when it’s unavoidable, I tend to embrace it, maximizing what can be gleaned from an abnormal situation.
